Listed below are some of the outside resources that were used to help plan our trip, and create this website. So if your planning on taking a hike on the Appalachian Trail, check out these websites for more information.
-This is the main website for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. It has a lot of information helpful for future hikers, and also information on volunteer opportunities. Click the link at the top of their page called "Hike the Trail" for lots of useful information. (ATC Logo in Banner compliments of ATC website)
-This website is vital to planning a successful trip. It is a free online version of the popular hikers guide to the Appalachian Trail, Appalachian Trail: Thru Hikers Companion. Look over the online version, and use it as a quick reference. It is basically just a collection of PDF files. However, I suggest buying the actual book if hitting the trail; it is only about $15 at any hiking store. Also, you should purchase the Appalachian Trail Data Book. This is referred to as the bible of the Appalachian Trail. It is 74 pages and includes every important waypoint from the series of the 11 official guidebooks. (These cost $35-$40 dollars each and would be too much to carry on your trip)
-You can purchase many things that you will need for a trip on the Appalachian Trail. They sell guidebooks, maps, simple apparel, and other Appalachian Trail merchandise.
-You can buy almost anything you need from this retail store. Prices can be expensive, so watch for sales.
-Like REI, you can buy almost anything you need for a hiking trip. Make sure to watch for special sales.
-This website is a personal account of a Thru-hiker in 2007. He hiked the trail in just a little over 3 months. The 'Videos' section is really cool because it gives you an account of his entire trip, and all the different moods that he went through. You can even see his beard progress! At first it may seem boring, but after watching all the videos (Linked to YouTube) I really wanted to hit the trail right away.
-This is a good article submitted to me from Brittany at After Skool Kids about hiking safety. Thank you Brittany!
